Captain Brian and Naturalist Tiffany called us from the Sea Hawk to report that they had whales EVERYWHERE! We first had reports of L12s milling near Salmon Bank and the rest of L Pod near the Trial Islands. Our guests on the Sea Hawk where watching the L12s when the remainder of L Pod came crusin’ around the corner and sandwiched the Sea Hawk! Captain Brian shut down the Sea Hawk’s engines and floated while whales breached, spy-hopped, and swam all around the boat. Naturalist Tiffany reported that our guests had tons of great questions and wanted to know everything about our Southern Resident Community of killer whales.

Guides Michael and Josh were out on the water this morning on their half-day paddle and reported seeing a ton of jelly fish in the water. Josh’s family trip was so excited to see all the different types of jellies. The kiddos on the trip were scooping up water jellies, moon jellies, and cross jellies. The cool thing about the San Juan Islands is that all of our colors-less jellies are fine to touch (aka no stinging to you!). The only one that is dangerous to touch is the lion’s main jelly fish. The bell (top part of the jelly) can be as large as 3 feet across and they are deep red & purple in color.

Overnight guides Nick, Philip, Noelle, and Britt are preparing for two separate multi-day trips. Guide Emily also has an overnight later this weekend. Can you say it’s busy? It’s BUSY!

Check back later for updates from our tree full-day trips, lead by guides Emily, Jesse, & Aileen and also our afternoon half-day trips.
