When Naturalist Tiffany got off the Sea Hawk from her morning charter, I asked how her trip when. One word…”AWESOME!” Captain Brain and Tiffany had a very diverse whale watch. At first, we didn’t get many solid reports of the Southern Resident killer whales, so Brian and Tiffany went in search of Transients. They found ‘em near Beaumont Shoals! Tiffany identified this small family group (three females, one male) as the T30s, which are considered to be near-shore specialists.

Captain Brain finally got word that the Residents were on their way to San Juan Island! Ks were in the lead heading up towards the Lime Kiln Lighthouse and they were traveling fast! Brian clocked the Ks porpoising at about 10 Knots an hour. Holy cow that’s speedy! Little K44 (nicknamed Garcia) and his momma K27 Deadhead were keeping up with all the other whales just fine.

Our guests also saw both Dahl’s and Harbor porpoises. How cool is that!

Don and Nick returned from a 4 Day/3 Night multiday with a special program of young adults. They spent the first night on Jones Island, and then the second two in Stuart Island. Don said that the highlight of the trip was the circumnavigation of Satellite Island, which is as the mouth of Prevost Harbor on Stuart Island. The circumnavigated Satellite at about 10:00pm and saw so much bioluminescence in the water. The water was glowing green around them. Amazing!
