We are off to a great 2013 season! We've had lots of wonderful wildlife encounters on the water in the recent weeks. Guides Andrew and Jesse both got out on the water with Half-Day and Full-Day professionally guided Sea Kayak Tours.
As we are sure you've heard, the San Juan Island are now the home of the most recent National Monument! Out departure location at Roche Harbor gives us a great access point to Posey Island and Kellett Bluff, which are both now part of the San Juan Islands National Monument. Hurray!
Guide Jesse had an up close encounter with a female Stellar's Sea Lion right at Kellett Bluff. We see many male Stellar's Sea Lions in the early spring and late summer, but very rarely do we encounter females! Both Jesse and Andrew reported seeing about 75 harbor seals hauled out in various locations.
In addition to harbor seals and sea lions, Jesse paddle past a family of five river otters and saw three or four pairs of bald eagles. Great day on the water!
