The three hour family trip this morning was timed perfectly to catch a -2.0 low tide. With the tide this low, it's worth stopping by Posey island for a little jaunt around this wee state park. Usually we can find a grand amount of intertidal treasures, and today was no exception! I had a wonderful family with me, with two boys who were game for eating whatever algae/seaweed I told them was edible. They discovered some new favorites. Then we found a plethora of ocre stars assuming yoga-like positions underneath the jagged rock edges. The boys rushed about, overturning small rocks that contained small purple shore crabs nestled beneath them. Every rock overturned was another smile on all of our faces.  After properly exploring the island, we headed back out to sea. We paddle out to the kelp forest, where seals perched on the rocks 200 yards away from us. The boys were most excited about the kelp, because it was another sea edible for them to enjoy. We were also able to fashion a small horn from the kelp, which the older boy joyously sounded all the way back into the dock. Another beautiful day, another wonderful trip out on the water.
