We spent three days paddling with a great group of eleven people and what an exciting three days it was! Our trip began in Friday Harbor where we shoved off in pursuit of Jones Island. The paddle provided us with some stunning views of Mt. Baker, a delicious lunch at Point Caution and much sunshine. There were bald eagles, harbor seals and jellyfish about for our viewing pleasure. After setting up camp we played an intense game of ultimate frisbee, packed our hungry bellies with fish tacos and guacamole and walked out to catch a beautiful sunset off the west side of the island.

Day two was long and rewarding. We arose early to pack up camp and set out for Stuart Island. With a distance about twice what we had done the first day, we were all thankful to have the currents in our favor during much of the paddle. Despite being exhausted after we arrived on Stuart, we all hiked out to the northwest tip of the island to watch the sun go down. Luck was on our side that evening; we were not only graced with another gorgeous sunset, but also dazzling views of a pod of our Southern Resident orca whales headed south. We watched the whales cruise gracefully by as the sun sank behind the Canadian Gulf Islands. Wow, what a day!

Our third day was another sunny one. We made our way back from Prevost Harbor on Stuart Island to Roche Harbor on San Juan Island. Harbor seal moms and pups lined the rocky intertidal zone of some of the islands as we passed by and were great fun to observe from a distance. We had an excellent lunch on Posey Island just outside of Roche Harbor before finishing the last of our paddle. We thoroughly enjoyed our three days of kayaking with these wonderful guests!
