Today was another hazy day out on the Salish Sea - it's eerie in a way, but also creates a unique backdrop for our whale watches. We just hope those fires up in BC will be under control soon! We're fast approaching the middle of August, which means that it's the busy season here on the island - lots of fun tours and trips to be had! Today was no different - we had such an adventure heading up to check out a pair of humpback whales way up on the northeast side of Saturna Island. We were in Canadian waters, watching these lumbering giants breath and make their way down the Strait of Georgia. It's always breathtaking to get a good look at these critters. The two we were watching today were Heather and Divot, a couple of frequent visitors to this area and two of my favorite humpback whales - they really do have their own personalities. I managed to capture a few images on our trip - definitely check them out below! What's your favorite part about being out on the water here in the Salish Sea? Many folks say the whales - and they are amazing, but there's so much more to keep your eyes peeled for. Bald eagles, cormorants, pigeon guillemots...birds galore for all of the birding enthusiasts out there! We have porpoises, seals, sea lions, otters...marine mammals don't just fall under the larger whale category out here. We saw many of these animals out on the water today, and it was a perfect glimpse at the biodiversity of the Salish Sea!
