What an incredible humpback day we had today!  As we started our trip out we had a report of a humpback whale fairly far south off of Lopez Island.  It was a bit drizzly but lucky for us the moment we boarded and got out on the water it seemed to clear up.

We left Roche Harbor and headed south through Haro Strait.  Along the way we got some looks at a harbor seal swimming by.  We were also able to enjoy a very scenic view of the whole west side of San Juan Island including Lime Kiln State Park.  The lighthouse looked very nice even in the overcast weather.

We continued our trek further south.  We got great looks at Cattle Point Lighthouse as well, adding another beautiful lighthouse look to our trip.  After passing Cattle Pass we saw boat in the distance- the same boats Captain Erick had been on the radio with, communicating the sighting of that humpback whale.

Once we got on scene we got some incredible looks at this humpback whale!  It surfaced close to us and we would hear their exhalation on multiple occasions!  We even got what felt like fifty tail slaps from this whale!  It was such a cool behavior to have the opportunity to see!

Eventually it was time to head back to Roche Harbor, but what a fantastic trip we had!  And to top it off we didn’t get any rain until we were docking and safely and warmly back in Roche Harbor.

Until Next Time,
