Southern Resident Killer Whales in Haro Strait

Southern Resident Orca Cross Paths with Humpback Whales in Haro Strait

Naturalist Olivia | M/V Sea Lion | July 11th, 2020 | 12:00pm

It was my personal first trip on M/V Sea Hawk of the season and it definitely did not disappoint! We left Roche Harbor with gray skies, but our happy faces were no reflection of the weather, as everyone was already in good spirits as we traveled southwest through Mosquito Pass. We left the dock with potential whale rumors, which is always humbling on our retired fishing boat. Despite knowing there were potential...

Laura | M/V Sea Lion | 2/29/2020 |12:00pm

Captain Sarah received word that there were some orcas south of us, so we headed east out of the harbor into Spieden Channel...

Laura C. | 6-25-2019 | M/V Sea Hawk | 2:00pm

Today was a beautiful, calm and sunny day out on the water!  Captain Sarah took the helm of M/V Sea Hawk as we made our voyage north towards Turn Point.  As we emerged from Roche Harbor it only took us minutes to find our first species of the day, majestic bald eagles!  There were at least 5-6 eagles on treetops and soaring over a nearby island.  One junior passenger Gavin had an "eagle eye" and was our avian spotter for the...

San Juan Island Killer Whale Sightings

Killer Whales (Orcas) were spotted again yesterday in the northern part of Seattle and "south" sound. Moving northbound, they were spotted in Saratoga Passage and along the shore of Whidbey Island. There were reports that whales were also near Port Angeles. No confirmed identifications were made, but the Killer Whales were very likely to be the J-pod and K-pod individuals spotted during the past few weeks. Since the whales were traveling out of the south sound in a...
