What an incredible day we had on the water today!  We started out our trip boarding our boat in Roche Harbor and heading out past some absolutely gorgeous yachts.  What a perfect day to be out on the water- we get to explore one of the most amazing places in the world from the comfort of our beautiful boat!

It was a day to remember in the Salish Sea. We began our trip with no firm reports of whales in the area, but some vague reports of humpback whales very far south of San Juan Island. We were originally going to head in that direction, so we headed west out of Roche Harbor. Today was an outstanding trip out of Roche Harbor!  M/V Sea Hawk carried passengers for only a few minutes before we had our first whale sighting!  We were so excited to hear reports that there was a humpback whale right outside the harbor!  Captain Sarah heard the news from a research vessel manned by The University of Washington and U.C Davis, studying whale scat!

What a beautiful day!

Captain Sarah and I booked it out of Roche Harbor and headed out to open seas. We boated up north around Spieden Island and towards Johns Island and Stuart Island!

Here we passed by a cute summer camp where they put up teepees along the shoreline. We passed by a recreation of a Native American long house as we passed through John’s Pass.

Then we crossed Boundary Pass into open waters and up towards Saturna...

What an incredible adventure aboard the M/V Sea Hawk! The sun was shining and the ocean was calm. It was a perfect day to be out on the water. We left the harbor and headed north toward East Point. Today was a great day out on the water! The sun finally shone brightly in the sky after many days of cloudy and smoky haze.
