What a beautiful day!
Captain Sarah and I booked it out of Roche Harbor and headed out to open seas. We boated up north around Spieden Island and towards Johns Island and Stuart Island!
Here we passed by a cute summer camp where they put up teepees along the shoreline. We passed by a recreation of a Native American long house as we passed through John’s Pass.
Then we crossed Boundary Pass into open waters and up towards Saturna...

Today was one of the top trips for both Captain Sarah and me! Sarah is not only our Captain, but also our Lead Naturalist and has been here for six years observing our wildlife. If she says it was in her top 5, you know it was good! We headed out of Roche Harbor through John’s Pass and straight up to Boundary Pass. From there, we caught our first glance at some Killer Whales where we waited for them to turn around East Point...

Today was such a great day out on the water as Captain Erick and I set out of Roche Harbor and headed north to reports of whales in Canadian waters. Picturesque clouds painted the horizon as they billowed up and created even more beauty all around us.
We first we headed towards Spieden Island and we checked out some harbor seals on a small rocky outcrop. These floppy little fellows were enjoying their time on land as...

Today was lovely as blue skies peaked through the clouds. Captain Sarah and I headed out of Roche Harbor towards reports of whales up in Canada!
As we reached the west side of Spieden Island we spotted a harbor seal in the water eating a salmon! It was so fun to watch him fling the fish around, trying to tear it apart to eat as seagulls swooped into the area trying to take advantage of free food!
Then we traveled further...

This Friday, Captain Sarah and I headed out with a great group of humans aboard the M/V Seahawk from Roche Harbor. We headed out and headed north towards Boundary Pass. As we passed into Swanson Channel we saw a few blows in the distance. Capt. Sarah brought us closer and we saw that the blows were from two Humpback Whales. We followed beside them for awhile as they travelled south. It seemed that they were heading to the area in...
Southern resident killer whale with kelp string between the lobes of her flukes. This play behavior is called "kelping."
This morning, Captain Jim and I departed Roche Harbor with positive reports of some southern resident killer whales north of us, in Boundary Pass. So, we cruised north past Speiden, through John’s Pass, and eventually caught up with the whales a few miles northeast of Turn Point. I immediately recognized J42 Echo, and therefore knew that we had to...
When a Captain decides to take the Sea Lion up North into Boundary Pass and beyond, I'm always hopeful. We left with reports of a Humpback near East Point on Saturna Island, which is what we aimed for leaving the dock. We got to see a lot more.
Meandering up North our guests were treated to Steller Sea Lions, Bald Eagles, and a lot of Harbor Porpoise en-route to where other companies are currently watching the Humpback. When we arrived on scene, we quickly determined...
