Sea Hawk Trip with Resident Whales in the Haro Strait! | 09/02/2018 | 3:00
Jordan | September 2, 2018 | M/V Sea Hawk | 3:00 trip
Today was a gorgeous day out on the water as the sun dazzled our guests on this fine holiday weekend. Captain Sarah and I were eager to get out of harbor in search of our whales! Luckily, we heard reports of whales coming from the west side of San Juan Island, and, although it’d be quite a long journey, we knew it’d be worth it.
So, we set out of Roche Harbor and headed south along the west side of the island within...
Sea Hawk Trip with Transient Whales in Canadian Waters! | 08/30/2018 | 2:00
Jordan | August 30, 2018 | M/V Sea Hawk | 2:00 trip
Today was such a great day out on the water as Captain Erick and I set out of Roche Harbor and headed north to reports of whales in Canadian waters. Picturesque clouds painted the horizon as they billowed up and created even more beauty all around us.
We first we headed towards Spieden Island and we checked out some harbor seals on a small rocky outcrop. These floppy little fellows were enjoying their time on land as...
Sea Hawk Trip with Transient Whales in Spieden Channel! | 08/28/2018 | 2:00
Jordan | August 28, 2018 | M/V Sea Hawk | 2:00 trip
Today was such fantastic day out on the water! The skies were a beautiful blue and the sun was shining as we left Roche Harbor. Captain Pete and I headed north towards Spieden Island.
Here we found some harbor seals lounging on the shoreline! There were a bunch of them taking advantage of the sunshine. There was even one seal in the water flopping around in the nearby kelp forest. He squirmed around until he flopped on...
A Surprising Journey out in the Haro Strait - Whales GalOrca!
[Lauren Fritz, M/V Seahawk, 09/01/2017, 2:00 pm Tour]
Today was another glorious day in Roche Harbor, and for Captain Joe and me, it was made even better by the chance to take our wonderful guests out to the Haro Strait to view some Transient killer whales! The water was as calm as glass, and there was hardly a breeze. It was a perfect day for whale watching. We were delighted to see a few different family pods all traveling together, some with big adult males, several...
M/V Seahawk Charter Ventures to Active Pass to See Transient Killer Whales
[Lauren Fritz, M/V Seahawk, 08/02/17, 6pm Private Charter]
On M/V Seahawk's 6pm charter today, we took out a wonderful family for a big reunion. It was a wonderful evening out on the water - lots of good laughs, beautiful scenery, and the best part - the chance to travel 15 miles north and see Transient killer whales up in the Canadian Gulf Islands!
I've posted a few photos from the journey - the lighting was unreal with a thick haze coating the islands, turning the sun...
M/V Seahawk Journeys to Canada for an Epic Encounter with Transient Orcas!
[Lauren Fritz, M/V Seahawk, 08/01/17, 2:00 pm Tour]
We had some interesting weather in the Salish Sea today - a nice haze coated our islands, creating an etheral aura and providing a beautiful backdrop for our whale watches today. After our guests had boarded the M/V Seahawk in Roche Harbor, Captain Joe shared his plan for the day. We would be heading north and going into "search mode" because no whales had yet been reported in our area - we wanted to be the first to find...
Humpbacks, Harbors Seals, Bald Eagles, and Clear Skies - Cruising the San Juan Islands on a Perfect Day
Lauren Fritz, M/V Seahawk, 07/12/2017, 2:00 pm Tour
What an exciting day on the water! M/V Seahawk pulled off the docks of Roche Harbor on San Juan Island at 2:00 pm, excited to explore the surrounding waters and bask in the sunshine. Once we pulled out of the harbor, Captain Pete let us know that there was a report of a humpback whale nearby! We cruised through John's Pass, one of my favorite passes in the San Juans because of its incredibly scenery and views of Stuart...
The Gal's from Texas Brought the Luck!-September 30th, 2015
Today was an astounding adventure on the ol' Seahawk that nobody could have expected.
Captain Brian and I had the boat ready for some very enthusiastic and excited passengers who were carrying a boatload of luck as far as viewing wildlife goes.
After we got loaded up we headed South out of Roche Harbor down Mosquito Pass. Just as we were talking about the abundant harbor seal population we putted past a rock that was coated with the very nonchalant pinnipeds.
Reaching the...
