Started off as a potentially very wet whale watch, but that was quickly about to change. Soon after leaving the docks of Roche Harbor, the M/V Sea Hawk could see clear skies in front of her. This wasn't the only good news for passengers on board, but there were also reports of Southern Resident Killer whales on the westside of San Juan Island. As we motored past Lime Kiln Whale Watching Park we started to see puffs of air in the far distance. Upon closer inspection it was none other than Granny, J-2, and Onyx, L87, leading the pack up the westside. We spent a few magical surfacings with these two until they header further up the island. This was quite alright with guests, because in the distance more blows from members of J Pod were spotted closer to the shoreline. Guests were rewarded with some incredible looks of orca whales, but also Dahl's Porpoises! As we were cruising home we were bombarded with rooster tails left behind from the 15-20 dahl's porpoises out in the middle of Haro Strait! It was an incredible time to see these "mini orcas" swimming quickly to potential fishy prey. All in all, couldn't have asked for a better day on the water!
