Well, we all survived this crazy late-summer heat wave. The air temperature was 83 on Sunday, and down on our kayak docks it felt like it was, oh I don’t know, 90s? We are in the perfect spot to get all the sun and no wind.

The great news in the all of our guests saw killer whales on Saturday! Kayak guide Don had a private all day kayak trip. They put their kayaks in at Cattle Point and paddled all the way up to the County Park, which is north of the Lime Kiln Lighthouse. It ended up being almost 6 hours on the water, but Don’s guests LOVED it! The first thing Don did was take them out to Whale Rocks in Cattle Pass to show them the male stellar sea lions. From there, they went up island and were bombarded by killer whales! J, K, and L pods (that’s 80 whales!) traveled past them for several hours. Amazing! Another highlight was that a big male stellar caught a humungous salmon right in from of Don and his guests.

Guides Aileen & Michael (on half-day trips) and guide Jesse (on a full day trip) saw whales too! We don’t see killer whales too often on a half day trip because the whales are constantly moving. The half-day route we do is 5 to 6 miles round trip, so it’s a tiny portion of the whales entire travel range. Michael and Aileen’s guests knew that seeing them was a very special experience and they were so grateful :).

Captain Nancy & Naturalist Kevin saw whales on their trip Saturday! The Sea Hawk caught up with them north of the Lime Kiln Lighthouse. Kevin said there was a ton of breaching and that the Ks were in the lead again. Captain Brian and Naturalist Tiffany saw whales on the trip yesterday too! It was a haul for the Sea Hawk because they whales were traveling fast. However, the guests on the Sea Hawk were prepared for a long trip and it was so worth it. Everyone had a blast seeing the Resident orcas.
Also! We are up to 50 reviews on Trip Advisor! We are so proud of all our employees for always giving our guests the best experiences. It really shows:). Great job SJO!
